Sardor Umurzakov appointed head of Strategic Development Agency
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has appointed Sardor Umurzakov as director of the Agency for Strategic Development and Reforms under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, following a decree signed by the head of state.
In connection with the new appointment, Umurzakov left the post of Presidential Advisor on Strategic Development, a position he had held since July 2025. The position of advisor has been abolished by a separate decree.
Abdulla Abdukodirov, who had been serving as the acting director of the agency, was relieved of his post due to his transfer to another job.
Sardor Umurzakov was born in 1977 and graduated from Tashkent State University of Economics and the University of Reading in the United Kingdom. He served as Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade from 2019, while simultaneously holding the post of Deputy Prime Minister from 2020 to 2022. From 2022 to 2023, Umurzakov headed the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan.
The Agency for Strategic Development and Reforms was established in November last year through the transformation of the Agency for Strategic Reforms. The reform provided for the introduction of a strategic planning system based on the "goal-action-result" principle and the expansion of the powers of the Coordination Council.
