Parents Detained in Ferghana Region Over Child Sale Attempt

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Law enforcement authorities in Uzbekistan’s Ferghana region have detained a married couple suspected of attempting to sell their own young child, according to the Bu kun news program.

Investigators say the couple planned to sell their 1-year-and-7-month-old son for US$35,000.

During a coordinated sting operation, the suspects were apprehended while receiving the agreed sum of money, with material evidence seized at the scene.

A criminal case has been initiated under relevant articles of the Criminal Code. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing to establish all circumstances surrounding the incident.
