Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A total of 1,312,748 people in Uzbekistan received medicines free of charge under the reimbursement programme in January–September 2026.
The State Health Insurance Fund allocated 248.2 billion soums to cover the cost of the medicines, the press service of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Health reported.
The average expenditure amounted to around 189,000 soums per person. Over the nine-month period, 5.9 million electronic prescriptions were issued, enabling patients to obtain medicines.
The ministry said the programme plays an important role in providing social support to people who require continuous treatment.
The volume of medicines dispensed increased over the course of the year. In September, patients across the country received 52% more medicines than in January.
The reimbursement mechanism consists of three stages. A doctor issues an electronic prescription, the patient collects the medicine from a pharmacy, and the state reimburses the pharmacy for its cost.
