Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Karakalpakstan is expanding its range of high-tech medical services, with liver and kidney transplants being performed at the central hospital in Nukus, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at a meeting on the socio-economic development of the region in Nukus.
Mirziyoyev said the Children's Hospital of the Aral Sea Region provides 150 types of high-tech medical services. Since the beginning of this year, 1,500 operations have been performed in complex areas, including neurosurgery, cardiac surgery and plastic surgery.
According to the president, a health insurance mechanism has been introduced in the region, while medical institutions have received equipment worth US$10 million.
Mirziyoyev said the Nukus Medical Scientific Academy, established for the first time in Uzbekistan on the basis of a public-private partnership, would become a methodological center for assessing knowledge and improving the qualifications of medical workers.
The president said the medical academy, children's clinic, oncology center and newly established multidisciplinary hospital would be brought together into a single system — the University Medical Cluster.
According to Mirziyoyev, from 1 January, doctors coming to work in Bozatau and Takhtakupyr districts will receive a salary supplement of up to 200%. The measure is similar to payments already available to doctors working in Muynak.
