Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the results of improvements in Kichkirik mahalla in Tashkent’s Almazar district and the conditions created for its residents.
The mahalla was established more than 30 years ago. It now has 23 apartment buildings housing more than 5,400 people in 1,416 apartments.
The large-scale redevelopment was carried out in accordance with the presidential resolution of 25 June 2024 “On Additional Measures to Improve, Green and Radically Enhance the Appearance of Mahallas.” The work was implemented under the state-run “Obod Mahalla” programme, with 71.4 billion soums allocated from the local budget.
A central element of the redevelopment is a promenade along the Kichkirik Canal. It stretches for 2.4 kilometres. A total of 12.4 kilometres of pedestrian paths have been laid, the green zone has been expanded, and an aivan, 14 gazebos, a water wheel and fountains have been installed over the water.
Around 6,500 ornamental and fruit trees have been planted in the mahalla. The facades of apartment buildings have been renovated, while benches and lighting fixtures have been installed.
Twelve workout areas and three football fields have been equipped for young people, and libraries have been opened. Entrepreneurship is also developing, with 47 business entities operating in the mahalla and 61 jobs created through new projects.
During his visit, the president instructed officials to pay particular attention to employment and poverty reduction. A system to support residents through the development of crafts is being introduced. Local resident Gulnora Goyipova has organised a pottery club and a weaving workshop where unemployed young people and women learn crafts under the “master-apprentice” system.
Another infrastructure facility is a modern tower-type car park, one of the first of its kind installed in Uzbekistan. The eight-storey structure operates like a lift: a central platform takes a vehicle and places it in an available space on one of the sides. This allows up to 16 cars to be accommodated simultaneously on a limited area.
An amphitheatre has also been built in the mahalla for cultural activities and public events.
Particular attention was paid to preschool education. Construction and renovation work has been carried out at two existing state-run preschool organisations.
The president visited Kindergarten No. 441, which was built in 1976. Two new buildings with a combined capacity of 450 places have been constructed on its grounds. As a result, the facility’s total capacity has increased to 835 places.
A salt room has been established at the kindergarten to strengthen children’s immune systems and help prevent respiratory diseases. Additional clubs have also been organised in English, mental arithmetic, visual arts, music, rhythmic gymnastics, chess and taekwondo.
The president was also presented with an interactive platform titled “Learning Uzbek Through Play.” Using games and digital technologies, it enables children to learn the state language, develop independent thinking and life skills, and become familiar with different professions.
In addition, Mirziyoyev reviewed a road safety club operating at the kindergarten. The need to expand similar initiatives to other preschools and develop a culture of safe road behaviour among children from an early age was emphasised.
