Mirziyoyev inspects new gastro street in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited a newly developed gastronomic tourism street located on Uzbekistan Ovozi Street in the Mirzo-Ulugbek district of Tashkent and reviewed its operations.

Tourism is considered one of the key sectors of the national economy, contributing to job creation with relatively modest investment, increasing household incomes, and improving urban environments. In the capital, which has significant potential in this area, a number of projects are being implemented to develop tourism infrastructure.

The project on Uzbekistan Ovozi Street is one of the practical outcomes of state policy aimed at developing domestic tourism and the service sector. It was implemented under a presidential decree of 30 April 2022 on additional measures to diversify domestic tourism services. After reconstruction, the site was commissioned in September 2025.

The architectural concept was developed by the Russian design firms City Makers and “Lyudi Architects.”

The street spans 2.1 kilometers and features modern infrastructure, including pedestrian and bicycle lanes, recreation areas, sports grounds, children’s eco-zones, a rope park, photo locations, and other urban amenities.

During the visit, the President inspected renovated buildings, landscaped areas, and facilities created for residents and tourists. The total cost of the project amounted to 40 billion soums. The street hosts 165 commercial outlets, while 89 businesses operate on a 24-hour basis. As a result of the project, 2,221 jobs have been created.

The President was also briefed on the expansion of tourism and gastronomic streets across Tashkent. In 2025, 26 streets in the capital switched to a 24/7 operating model. Investments totaling 540 billion soums were directed to their development, resulting in the opening of 1,103 new retail and service outlets, the transition of 315 businesses to round-the-clock operations, and the attraction of 26 international brands.

These initiatives have significantly increased business activity, with daily visitor numbers rising from 80,000 to 200,000 and around 6,000 jobs created.

This year, plans include the creation of 18 additional tourist streets, the launch of around 500 new facilities, and the creation of up to 7,000 jobs.

Following the visit, the President instructed officials to further develop gastronomic tourism in the Mirzo-Ulugbek district, fully utilize its potential, improve service quality, and implement new investment projects.
