Mirziyoyev Honors Farrukh Zakirov on 80th Birthday

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A ceremonial event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of People’s Artist of Uzbekistan and prominent figure of national pop music Farrukh Zakirov was held at the “Kuksaroy” residence with the participation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The ceremony was attended by state and public figures, representatives of culture and the arts, members of the creative community, and performers of the “Yalla” ensemble.

In his speech, the President congratulated Farrukh Zakirov on his jubilee and wished him good health, well-being, and continued creative success.

It was noted that the Zakirov family dynasty has made a significant contribution to the development of national musical art for many years. The creative school founded by People’s Artist Karim Zakirov, as well as the legacy of Batyr Zakirov—one of the founders of Uzbek pop music—were recognized as an important part of the country’s cultural heritage.

It was emphasized that rare cases in which an entire family dedicates itself to the arts across generations carry special cultural significance. Farrukh Zakirov, continuing this tradition, has made a major contribution to the development of national pop music and elevated it to a new level.

The artist is widely known not only in Uzbekistan but also across Central Asia, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and the Turkic world. He has been awarded honorary titles of People’s Artist in several countries and regions, reflecting high international recognition of his creative work.

Special attention was given to the “Yalla” ensemble, inseparably linked with Zakirov’s name. Over 55 years, the group has performed hundreds of songs, many of which have become part of the golden fund of national culture.

During the event, members of the ensemble who contributed to its development were also recognized, highlighting the group’s role in shaping modern Uzbek pop traditions.

It was reported that more than 400 songs performed by “Yalla,” based on national musical traditions, have become recognized works of art, with some gaining widespread popularity both domestically and abroad.

The President also noted Farrukh Zakirov’s contribution to public and cultural life, as well as his role in mentoring and supporting young performers.

As part of the event, a presidential decree and resolution were announced introducing a series of cultural and educational initiatives. In particular, Secondary Music and Art School No. 7 in Tashkent’s Yashnabad district will be named after Farrukh Zakirov.

The school will establish a children’s “Yalla” ensemble, creative laboratories, modern recording and video production studios, and implement a mentor–student system. Support measures for teachers and expanded opportunities for talented students, including participation in international competitions, were also outlined.

The initiatives are expected to help preserve and pass on creative heritage to future generations and further develop national arts.

The ceremony concluded with the President awarding Farrukh Zakirov the Order “For Outstanding Merit” for his exceptional contribution to culture and the arts.
