Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Bakhytzhan Sagintayev, chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), on 22 October to discuss expanding the country’s cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), in which Uzbekistan holds observer status.
The meeting noted sustained growth in mutual trade and investment with EAEU member states, as well as stronger logistics links.
Uzbekistan is actively participating in key sectoral programmes of the union, including initiatives to digitalise trade and freight transport, develop e-commerce and advance the climate agenda.
Four meetings of a joint working group with the Eurasian Economic Commission have already been held. A roadmap has also been approved to bring technical regulation systems closer together.
Particular attention was given to cooperation with the Eurasian Development Bank, of which Uzbekistan has become a full member. A portfolio of joint projects has been developed with the bank.
The sides agreed to hold the next meeting of the joint working group before the end of 2026. They also emphasised the need to adopt a new cooperation plan focused on reducing trade barriers, deepening industrial cooperation and digitalising customs and transport procedures.
