Lee Hsien Loong Addresses Uzbekistan’s Senate

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Singapore Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong addressed the Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis, speaking about current global challenges, development trends in Asia and prospects for cooperation between the two countries.

Before Lee’s address, the Senate Chair noted that long-term strategic reforms, the rule of law, effective public administration and a focus on human capital had played an important role in Singapore’s rapid development.

The event also highlighted the development of Uzbek-Singapore relations. The two countries established diplomatic ties nearly 30 years ago, while high-level political dialogue in recent years has helped bring bilateral relations to a new level.

Particular attention was given to interparliamentary cooperation, which is developing through reciprocal visits by parliamentary delegations, contacts between committees and interparliamentary friendship groups.

In his speech, Lee shared his assessment of global developments, current trends in the Asian region and global challenges, as well as issues related to joint responses to them.

The Singaporean Senior Minister also discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Singapore. He highlighted the importance of exchanging experience in public administration, education, human capital development, innovation and the economy.

Participants stressed the need to further expand interparliamentary ties. Potential areas include exchanging experience in lawmaking, digitalizing parliamentary activities, and developing cooperation in public policy, education, youth policy and training modern specialists.

The Oliy Majlis has already approved an updated composition of its cooperation group with Singapore’s parliament. At its next meeting, the group is expected to consider proposals raised in Lee’s address.

Uzbekistan and Singapore will mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year. According to participants at the meeting, the anniversary will provide an opportunity not only to review bilateral cooperation but also to identify new areas for developing relations between the two countries.

At the end of his visit, Lee Hsien Loong signed the Senate’s Book of Honour.
