Kazakhstan Power Grid Accident Causes Outages in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Electricity supply disruptions occurred in Uzbekistan following an accident in the power system of a neighbouring country that affected the operation of the Central Asian Unified Power System. Voltage supply across Uzbekistan is currently being restored in stages, the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan said.

According to the press service of National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan, specialists are working to address the consequences of the accident and restore normal operation of the power system.

The disruptions may be linked to an accident in Kazakhstan. According to KEGOC, the accident occurred at 14:38 on 14 August. Lines L-5400, L-5300 and L-5320 were disconnected, after which emergency protection systems were activated in the networks of Alatau Zharyk Company.

As a result, some consumers in Almaty and Almaty Region were left without electricity. Local media reported that the disconnected load amounted to 300 MW.

In Uzbekistan, electricity supply to consumers is being restored in stages as the consequences of the accident in Kazakhstan’s power system are addressed.
