Istomin through to second round in US Open 2009

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan moved to the second round of the US Open, last Gram Slam of the year, on Tuesday, 1 September 2009.

Istomin, currently world No. 108, faced Brendan Evans, world No. 121, of the USA and won the match 6/4, 6/4, 7/6 (7/3) in straight sets. The match lasted 2 hours and 26 minutes.

Uzbekistan No. 1 recorded 18 aces during the match against eight of the US player, who played in the main draw thanks to the wildcard.

Denis Istomin will face either Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka or Ecuador’s Nicolas Lapentti.
