GM Uzbekistan car output up 5.5% y-o-y in Jan-Aug

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- GM Uzbekistan, a joint venture of General Motors (GM) and Uzavtoprom, increased car output 5.5% year-on-year to 126,506 units in January-August, Uzbekistan’s state statistics committee said.

GM Uzbekistan produced 55,189 Nexia cars, down 6.8% year-on-year; 42,598 Matiz compact cars, down 1% year-on-year; 15,485 Damas minivans, up 3.3% year-on-year; 724 Epica cars, down 31% year-on-year; and 713 Captiva SUVs, down 31% year-on-year. The company also produced in the period 11,797 Lacetti cars, which were not produce in January-August 2008.

In 2008, GM Uzbekistan’s car output increased 13.5% year-on-year to 195,038 units.

GM Uzbekistan was set up in 2008. At present, GM holds 25% plus one share in the joint venture, while Uzavtoprom holds the remaining 75%.
