Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The cost of the first phase of an integrated nuclear power plant project in Uzbekistan, which includes two small reactors, is estimated at approximately US$1 billion.

This was stated by Sukhrob Abdurakhmanov, Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, on the sidelines of the international industrial exhibition “INNOPROM. Central Asia” held in Tashkent.

According to him, the project includes the construction of two small reactors with a capacity of 55 MW each. He emphasized that implementation of such a large-scale initiative requires significant volumes of high-quality industrial products and the involvement of a wide range of sectors.

Abdurakhmanov noted that the project is already influencing the improvement of industrial standards in the country. In his assessment, enterprises in the electrical engineering sector, construction materials producers, and other related industries are being pushed toward higher quality levels and technological modernization.

He also stated that the construction of the nuclear power plant in the Jizzakh region will create conditions for the formation of a large industrial and service cluster. This includes the development of transport and logistics infrastructure, service industries, and social facilities.

According to him, the project will also generate new jobs and provide an additional boost to the development of small and medium-sized businesses in the region.
