Ferghana Valley Launches New Railway Ring Line
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A new railway service has been commissioned in Uzbekistan’s Ferghana Valley, creating a unified transport ring linking Kokand, Namangan, Andijan, and Margilan.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the inaugural journey from Kokand to Margilan together with representatives of the public, marking the symbolic launch of the project.
The initiative is being implemented in line with the Presidential decree of December 27, 2025, on measures to improve passenger transport performance on local railway routes through 2030. The project aims to strengthen transport connectivity in the densely populated Ferghana Valley, provide residents with a convenient, safe, and affordable mode of transport, and increase passenger traffic volumes.
The total length of the circular route is 324 kilometers. It is expected to reduce travel distances between regional centers and create new opportunities for residents, businesses, and tourism development.
The route is served by a train produced at the Tashkent plant for construction and repair of passenger railcars. The six-car train has a capacity of 586 passengers and a maximum operating speed of 120 kilometers per hour.
The fare has been set at 15,000 soums, making rail transport more affordable compared to road transport. According to estimates, the line will be able to carry up to 1,500 passengers per day and around 600,000 passengers annually, contributing to increased economic activity in the region.
The train is equipped with modern climate control systems, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and USB charging ports. Special facilities have been provided for passengers with disabilities, including lifts, adapted seating, and sanitary units. Bicycle racks have also been installed to improve passenger mobility.
Security systems, including video surveillance and impact-resistant structural elements, meet international standards.
During the trip, President Mirziyoyev also held discussions with regional leaders on ongoing changes and development prospects. It was noted that the new railway line could significantly enhance the tourism potential of the Ferghana Valley.
The importance of developing infrastructure around railway stations was emphasized, including service facilities, hotels, and catering enterprises, which would create additional employment opportunities and income sources for the local population.
