Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — In Karakalpakstan, in western Uzbekistan, a joint expedition by scientists from Berdakh Karakalpak State University and specialists from the State Geological Museum of Uzbekistan discovered dinosaur bones believed to date back approximately 70 million years, according to the TV channel Uzbekistan-24.
Researchers indicated that the remains may belong to a giant dinosaur.
Ahmadjon Ahmedshaev, director of the Geological Museum, specified that fragments of the vertebrae, parts of the shin, and other skeletal elements of the ancient reptile were uncovered at the excavation site.
He noted that all findings are from the Cretaceous period, and their precise classification will be determined after laboratory studies involving international experts.
Once the examinations are completed, the bones are planned to be transferred to the State Geological Museum of Uzbekistan.
