Competition Committee Helps Consumers Recover Over 16 Million Soums

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection Committee has reviewed citizen complaints regarding services in the housing construction, financial, and educational sectors. Following investigations, funds were returned to the applicants and their rights were restored.

In the Ferghana region, a resident of Ferghana reported a violation of his rights during an apartment purchase. The investigation showed that after concluding the contract and paying in full for a housing unit measuring 110 square metres, the actual area of the apartment according to cadastral documents turned out to be 108 square metres. As a result, nearly 10 million soums paid for the overcharged 2 square metres were returned to the consumer.

In the Tashkent region, the territorial department of the Committee reviewed an appeal from a citizen who was unable to recover funds following an unsuccessful money transfer through the Paynet application. After the complaint was processed, Paynet JSC ensured the return of 5 million soums to the applicant.

Another appeal was received from a resident of the city of Shirin in the Syrdarya region, who requested assistance in terminating a contract with Marstiff Sat Academy LLC and recovering funds paid for a distance education course. According to the applicant, after two months of study, he was dissatisfied with the quality of the services provided.

Following an explanation to the company regarding the requirements of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On Protection of Consumer Rights," the contract was terminated, and more than 1 million soums paid for the tuition were returned to the citizen.
