Car sales in Uzbekistan rise by 20% in March
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan recorded a significant acceleration in its passenger car market activity in March, according to an overview by the Center for Economic Research and Reforms.
Combined sales in both primary and secondary markets exceeded 78,000 units, marking a 19% increase compared to the previous month. In annual terms, growth reached 20.6%.
Regional dynamics showed uneven performance across the country. While most regions reported an increase in sales, declines were observed only in Jizzakh, Andijan, and Samarkand regions.
The strongest growth was recorded in Surkhandarya Region, where sales increased by 51.4%, followed by Tashkent Region with a 46% rise.
Significant increases were also observed in Syrdarya and Navoi regions, at 34.5% and 27.5% respectively. The capital demonstrated particularly strong momentum, with car sales in Tashkent rising by 60.5% over the month.
On the primary market, around 31,000 new passenger cars were sold in March, exceeding the previous month’s figure by more than 13%. Year-on-year growth reached 37%.
Sales of domestically produced new vehicles reached approximately 25,000 units. This represents a 3.8% monthly increase and a 26.5% rise compared to the same period last year.
The segment of new imported vehicles showed the most dynamic growth, with sales nearly doubling compared to the previous month to about 5,700 units. Year-on-year, this segment also more than doubled.
The secondary market also demonstrated growth, with 47,500 used cars sold in March, up 23% month-on-month and 12% year-on-year.
A separate trend was observed in the electric vehicle segment. Combined sales of new and used EVs reached 5,500 units, increasing by 24% compared to the same period last year.
Growth in electric vehicle sales was recorded in eight regions, while declines were observed in four. The highest growth rates were seen in Khorezm Region, where sales increased fivefold, Navoi Region with a 3.6-fold rise, Jizzakh Region with a 2.9-fold increase, and Fergana Region with a 2.2-fold increase.
