Cadaster official detained in Karakalpakstan bribery case

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A district head of the cadaster department in the Republic of Karakalpakstan has been detained while allegedly receiving a US$2,000 bribe, law enforcement authorities reported.

According to investigators, the official used his position to obtain money from a citizen in exchange for assistance in recognizing property ownership rights and processing cadaster documentation.

Authorities said the case involved a building constructed on an illegally occupied land plot of 132 square meters. A civil court ruling issued in 2024 ordered the demolition of the structure.

Despite the court decision, the official allegedly promised to issue the necessary documents and legalize the property. He was subsequently detained in the act of receiving the money by officers of the State Security Service.

A criminal case has been opened against the detainee, and investigative actions are ongoing.
