Bus Lanes in Tashkent Now Separated by Delineators
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A new phase of road infrastructure development has commenced in Tashkent, aimed at ensuring the unhindered movement of public transport. Delineators—special physical separators that isolate the bus line from the general automobile flow—are now being installed along dedicated category "A" lanes.
The first section to feature this layout is the stretch of road running from Furkat Street near Magic City park to Islam Karimov Street near the People's Friendship Palace. In addition to mounting the separating elements, corresponding road markings have been applied to the carriageway. The introduction of these structures is designed to make the priority bus zone more visible to all road users and to improve driver discipline.
The use of physical barriers draws on successful international experience from countries such as the United States, Spain, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Australia, as well as the city of Baku. In global megacities, isolating lanes significantly increases the operational speed of buses, minimizes delays during peak hours, and stabilizes transit schedules. The installation of delineators reduces the risk of unauthorized passenger cars entering special lanes and prevents chaotic lane-changing by vehicles.
Over the course of the current year, dedicated lanes for public transport are planned for more than 30 streets across the capital. A phased rollout of delineators and accompanying road adjustment elements is scheduled for these sites as well. The implementation of this large-scale project aims to reduce passenger travel times, increase the appeal of city transit routes, and optimize the overall traffic load on Tashkent's road network.
