Bishkek Forum Focuses on Regional Transport Corridors
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An international transport forum titled “Kyrgyzstan – a Regional Hub: A Bridge Connecting Continents” was held in Bishkek on 23 April, bringing together transport ministers from the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Organization of Turkic States, along with representatives of international organizations, financial institutions, and relevant agencies.
The discussions focused on the development of international transport corridors, strengthening logistics chains, and accelerating digitalization in the transport sector. Participants also considered proposals aimed at simplifying border-crossing procedures, modernizing infrastructure, and improving the efficiency of freight transportation.
Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov addressed the opening ceremony of the forum, stating that Central Asia is regaining its role as a key link in global transport and trade routes. In this context, he described Kyrgyzstan not only as a neighboring country but also as a strategic partner for Uzbekistan.
He further emphasized that modern transport systems include not only physical infrastructure but also digital and intelligent components. In this regard, he identified the creation of a barrier-free transport space as a priority objective.
Makhkamov also highlighted the importance of digital transformation in the transport sector, including the introduction of electronic systems such as e-Permit and e-CMR. According to him, these solutions help eliminate administrative barriers, speed up transportation processes, and increase transparency in logistics operations.
In addition, the minister stressed the need to develop multimodal transportation, establish “green corridors,” and build modern logistics centers, as well as improve overall efficiency through the use of digital technologies.
At the conclusion of the forum, participants reaffirmed their readiness to continue cooperation aimed at strengthening regional transport connectivity, developing efficient corridors, and expanding the use of digital solutions in logistics.
