Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Samarkand region is continuing efforts to modernize its preschool education system with support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), according to discussions held between regional governor Adiz Boboev and ADB Country Director for Uzbekistan Kanokpan Lao-Araya.
The meeting focused on plans to build, reconstruct, and commission around 100 kindergartens under public-private partnership (PPP) mechanisms as part of ADB-supported efforts to develop early childhood education in Uzbekistan.
According to the discussions, ADB experts have conducted a detailed assessment of mahallas across Samarkand region and identified the need for 37 new preschool institutions to be built under PPP arrangements.
The programme also includes the reconstruction of 49 kindergartens and major renovation of 66 existing facilities.
At the current stage, the priority task is the allocation of land plots for the planned facilities.
Once this process is completed, an international tender is expected to be announced to attract foreign investors to the project.
Governor Adiz Boboev expressed readiness to provide full support for the initiative, which aims to strengthen social infrastructure and improve access to quality preschool education in the region.
