Yandex Uzbekistan Reports Results of Environmental Campaign

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Yandex Uzbekistan has announced the results of an environmental initiative carried out jointly with users of the Yandex Go service to mark World Environment Day.

As part of the campaign, 1,000 trees were planted in the Tashkent region in the autumn of 2023. One year later, the majority of the saplings have successfully adapted and continue to grow.

The environmental campaign was held in June 2023. During the initiative, the company allocated funds for greening projects for every kilometer traveled by users on scooters, as well as through rides booked under the “Together” and “Electric” tariffs of the Yandex Go service.

The initiative was designed to promote more environmentally friendly modes of transportation. The “Electric” tariff uses electric vehicles, while shared rides under the “Together” tariff and scooter trips help reduce the number of cars on the roads and lower harmful emissions.

Funds raised through the campaign were used to purchase and plant 1,000 saplings in the Tashkent region. Over the following year, the young trees received regular maintenance, including irrigation and other necessary agricultural care. Nearly all of the saplings successfully took root, while those that did not survive the adaptation period were promptly replaced.

According to Aziz Abdukhakimov, Adviser to the President of Uzbekistan on Environmental Issues and Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, sustainable development requires the combined efforts of government, society and business.

“It is particularly important when companies go beyond one-off initiatives and see projects through to tangible results. Greening efforts help improve the quality of the urban environment and foster a responsible attitude toward natural resources. Such projects demonstrate that business contributions can deliver long-term benefits for people and the environment,” he said.

The implementation of such initiatives highlights the growing role of businesses in addressing environmental challenges and contributes to the development of a culture of responsible consumption and environmental stewardship.

The Yandex Uzbekistan initiative serves as an example of how modern digital services can unite users around practical environmental projects and contribute to creating a more comfortable and sustainable urban environment.
