Yandex Maps Adds School Proximity Alerts in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Yandex Maps has introduced a new safety feature called "Caution, School" in Tashkent to alert drivers when they approach educational institutions ahead of the new academic year beginning on 2 September 2026, the company announced.
The tool displays "Caution, Children" signs on the map for routes that pass near schools and issues a voice warning encouraging drivers to reduce their speed and watch for children if the app detects speeding in those designated zones.
In addition to the driving alert, the navigation service recommended that users check traffic conditions on the morning of 2 September 2026 to compare driving, public transit, and walking options. The app provides real-time tracking and estimated arrival times for buses, along with a "Green Route" option for pedestrians that optimizes walking paths based on tree canopy coverage and shade.
The company also reported increased platform usage during the start of the academic term, noting that searches in the "Science and Education" category in Uzbekistan rose by 36.2% on the first day of school in 2025 compared to other days in September.
During that same single-day period in 2025, searches for schools in Tashkent increased by nearly 75%, with private school queries rising almost 87%, lyceums up 61%, and higher education institutions increasing by more than 40%. Searches for copy centers and stationery stores also saw gains of 59.2% and 14.3%, respectively.
