Uzbekistan, UNEP discuss expanded environmental cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Inger Andersen, on the sidelines of the Regional Environmental Summit in Astana.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed key areas of cooperation in environmental protection, sustainable development, and climate change mitigation.
The discussions highlighted the steady expansion of collaboration, including the preparation of national environmental reports, improvements in environmental monitoring systems, and the strengthening of institutional capacity in Uzbekistan.
Inger Andersen praised Uzbekistan’s ongoing national initiatives, including “Yashil makon,” “Bionaslediye,” “Clean Air,” “Waste-Free Territory,” and “Eco-Culture” projects.
She noted that these programs contribute to environmental sustainability and help improve the quality of life for the population.
The UNEP Executive Director also expressed readiness to further expand practical cooperation in implementing initiatives proposed by Uzbekistan during the current summit.
