Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis has adopted a bill establishing a joint professional holiday for medical and pharmaceutical workers. The document has been submitted to the Senate for consideration.

The amendments propose replacing the words “medical workers” with “medical and pharmaceutical workers” in the existing law. The professional holiday would be observed on the second Sunday of November.

As noted during the parliamentary session, Uzbekistan employs more than 50,000 specialists in the pharmaceutical sector. The population is served by 504 pharmaceutical manufacturing enterprises, 478 distribution organisations and more than 14,000 pharmacies.

The bill’s authors believe the amendments will bring the terminology used in the law on the professional holiday into line with the concepts applied in the laws “On the Protection of Citizens’ Health” and “On Medicines and Pharmaceutical Activities.”

The amendments are expected to help raise the social status of pharmaceutical workers and provide them with greater material and moral support.
