Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — France’s High Commissioner for Children, Sarah El Haïry, will visit Samarkand on 21–22 October 2026 to attend the Global Summit on Investment in Children’s Well-being.
The event is being held at the invitation of the United Nations and the Uzbek authorities, alongside the Second International Congress on Childhood Cancer.
During the summit, El Haïry will speak at a high-level roundtable titled “Investing in Children at Scale: Financing Comprehensive Systems for Lifelong Well-being”.
She will present France’s approach to preventing violence against children, including measures set out in the National Plan to Combat Violence Against Children for 2023–2027.
Particular attention will be paid to the need for coordinated, long-term government action to prevent violence, protect children and support families.
Summit participants will also discuss how to maintain and increase investment in children amid budgetary constraints. The agenda will cover coordination of public policies in social protection, child protection, healthcare and education.
In addition, El Haïry will visit School No. 43 in Samarkand, where French is taught as the first foreign language. During the visit, discussions are planned on students’ attitudes towards social media and video games, amid growing attention to protecting children in the digital environment.
“Preventing violence against children is an investment in their rights, their future and the future of society as a whole. For this commitment to bear fruit, it must be translated over the long term into coordinated government action that protects children and supports families,” El Haïry said.
