Uzbekistan tightens rules on carrying dangerous items

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a law introducing amendments and additions to several legislative acts aimed at improving the system of early crime prevention.

According to the amendments to the Code of Administrative Responsibility, liability has been established for carrying items in public places in an openly visible manner that may be used as cold weapons.

Exceptions are provided for cases related to professional, sports activities, or household needs.

For this offense, as well as for its repeated commission within one year after the application of an administrative penalty, a fine ranging from 1 to 5 base calculation units is imposed.

In addition, the amendments affect the Law “On Weapons”.

Under the new provisions, in cases where the right to store and carry civilian firearms is restricted for individuals who have committed violence against children, during the period of a protective order or for the duration specified in it, internal affairs bodies are authorized to confiscate weapons and ammunition.

The adopted measures are aimed at improving public safety and preventing offenses. The law comes into force on the day of its official publication.
