Uzbekistan Tightens Liability for Water Resource Protection
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan has adopted in the first reading a draft law introducing amendments and additions to the Code of Administrative Responsibility aimed at strengthening measures to protect water resources and improving oversight of their use.
The draft, introduced by a group of deputies as a legislative initiative, provides for improved legal regulation in the areas of state accounting of water resources, operation of water management facilities, and ensuring the safety of hydraulic structures.
It is noted that the strengthening of liability for violations in this field is linked to the need to prevent improper use of water infrastructure and improve control over wastewater discharge systems.
The draft law proposes establishing administrative liability for violations of rules on the state accounting of water resources, as well as regulations governing the operation of water management facilities and hydraulic structures. It also provides for stricter sanctions for officials and increased fines for repeat violations.
Member of the Committee on Agricultural and Water Management Issues Maksud Mukhammadov stated that the document includes provisions aimed at strengthening environmental protection measures, protecting public health, and improving the efficiency of water resource use.
Following consideration, the draft law was supported by deputies and adopted in the first reading.
