Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Serbia have agreed to prepare an intergovernmental agreement on migration and mobility, following a meeting between Mukhsinkhodja Abdurakhmonov, director of Uzbekistan’s Migration Agency, and Serbia’s Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy Milica Stamenkovski.

The sides discussed further cooperation in labor migration and workforce mobility. A key outcome of the talks was an agreement to prepare an Intergovernmental Agreement between Uzbekistan and Serbia for signing.

The Serbian side also expressed interest in attracting qualified specialists from Uzbekistan to work on the construction of facilities for EXPO 2027, which will be held in Serbia.

As part of this effort, the participants discussed preliminary training of specialists based on Serbia’s workforce needs, as well as their subsequent placement in jobs offering decent working conditions.

The sides also discussed the possibility of Serbia opening an embassy in Uzbekistan. The establishment of a diplomatic mission is expected to make it easier for Uzbek citizens to obtain visas for Serbia. At present, the relevant procedures are handled through Astana.

The talks continued with Milan Bosnich, director of Serbia’s National Employment Service. Following the meeting, the sides agreed that, after the intergovernmental agreement is ratified, the two agencies will sign a separate Protocol on Cooperation.

The document will focus on developing cooperation between Uzbekistan and Serbia in labor migration and workforce mobility.
