Uzbekistan Seizes Large Drug Shipments in Regions
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Law enforcement agencies in Uzbekistan have seized large quantities of narcotic substances in the Tashkent and Samarkand regions during separate operational activities, according to the press service of the authorities.
In the first case, officers of the State Security Service and customs authorities detained a 1992-born citizen in the city of Bekabad, Tashkent region. The individual had been wanted since 2025 on suspicion of drug smuggling and illegal trafficking of narcotics.
During a search of his rented apartment, authorities discovered 151 grams of opium and 4,971 grams of hashish hidden in various locations, including a refrigerator and a ventilation shaft. According to investigators, the drugs were illegally brought in from a neighbouring country. The suspect has been placed in pre-trial detention.
In a second case in the Urgut district of the Samarkand region, officers from the State Security Service, Border Troops, and internal affairs bodies detained two individuals born in 2003 while attempting to sell 932 grams of hashish and 2.5 grams of opium for US$10,000.
A criminal case has been opened, and the suspects have also been placed in pre-trial detention. Investigations are ongoing.
