Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan has proposed allowing passengers travelling on long-distance trains to use suburban train services free of charge for 12 hours before departure and 12 hours after arrival.
The measure is included in a draft presidential resolution approving a strategy for the integrated development of domestic passenger transport by rail, air and road through 2030.
The document was prepared by the Ministry of Transport and has been submitted for public consultation until 11 November, uznews.uz reported.
Under the proposal, the benefit would apply to passengers holding electronic tickets for long-distance trains. They would be able to travel free of charge on suburban trains within the relevant region during the 12 hours preceding the departure time stated on their ticket and the 12 hours following arrival at their destination.
To implement the initiative, the Ministry of Transport, together with Uzbekistan Railways JSC and other responsible organisations, is expected to develop and introduce procedures for granting the benefit by 1 September 2027.
The draft also provides for the integration of fare systems and the adaptation of railway operators’ information systems. These measures are intended to coordinate long-distance and suburban rail services.
According to the draft action plan, the initiative aims to make journeys more convenient and improve connections between suburban and intercity rail services.
The proposal remains under public consultation. The conditions described are provisions of a draft document and do not constitute an existing travel benefit.
