Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Navoi International Airport has opened a Porto-Franco free customs zone designed to develop cargo logistics and international transportation. The project was implemented under Uzbekistan Presidential Resolution No. PP-50 dated 9 February 2026.

The new zone will allow goods to be imported and stored without paying customs duties, processed, and handled through import, export and transit operations.

The initiative is expected to reduce the time and financial costs associated with cargo clearance and speed up the delivery of goods to their destinations.

The project aims to improve airport operations and make fuller use of its transport and logistics potential. According to the organisers, the Porto-Franco zone has no equivalent in Central Asia.

The opening ceremony was attended by Alisher Kilichev, director of Navoi International Airport LLC, representatives of the Customs Committee, partner organisations and other guests.

Airport expands technical capabilities

At the same time, the airport is introducing new equipment to support aircraft servicing. An ACU (Air Conditioning Unit), designed to supply cooled or heated air to aircraft cabins while planes are parked on the ground, has been commissioned.

The equipment will help maintain comfortable conditions for passengers and crew while improving the efficiency of aircraft ground handling.

The opening of Porto-Franco and the introduction of additional equipment are intended to strengthen Navoi International Airport’s position as a logistics hub for cargo transportation.
