Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Competition Committee has opened a case against Regional Electric Networks JSC and enterprises within its system over charges collected from businesses for reconnecting to the electricity grid. The committee said.
Earlier, as part of measures to support businesses, fines and additional payments for reconnecting enterprises to the electricity grid after they had settled electricity debts were abolished.
Government agencies were instructed to apply the rules directly without waiting for additional by-laws to be adopted.
Amendments were subsequently made to the Rules for the Use of Electricity, abolishing reconnection fees for consumers who had previously been disconnected from the electricity grid.
However, an analysis of information submitted to the Competition Committee by the Business Ombudsman revealed signs that regional electricity network enterprises had received unjustified income.
According to the committee, between 23 August 2025 and February 2026, businesses across Uzbekistan were charged a total of 5.5 billion soums for reconnection to the electricity grid in 965 cases.
In connection with the findings, the Competition Committee opened a case against Regional Electric Networks JSC and enterprises within its system.
The circumstances of the case are currently being examined with the participation of relevant government agencies, and a legal assessment is being conducted.
