Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim, who made a stopover in Tashkent. The sides discussed the further development of bilateral relations and the expansion of practical cooperation.

During the talks, it was noted that, thanks to mutual high-level visits, Uzbekistan–Malaysia cooperation has entered a qualitatively new stage. According to the parties, mutual trade has increased by 15% since the beginning of the current year, while the number of joint ventures has reached 50.

Special attention was given to the implementation of joint investment projects. The head of state emphasized the importance of accelerating work on strategic initiatives discussed these days with the delegation of the Malaysian corporation Petronas.

The participants reviewed prospects for cooperation in petrochemicals, high-tech manufacturing, agriculture, mechanical engineering, pharmaceuticals, and other priority sectors of the economy.

The sides also discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in Islamic finance, interregional ties, pilgrimage tourism, increasing direct flights, and strengthening cultural and humanitarian exchanges.

An exchange of views was also held on current international and regional issues.

Following the meeting, Shavkat Mirziyoyev invited Anwar Ibrahim to pay an official visit to Uzbekistan.
