Uzbekistan Plans Easier Business Account Freezes

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan plans to revise the procedure for suspending and resuming operations on entrepreneurs’ bank accounts in cases of identified tax violations.

A relevant draft law aimed at protecting business interests and streamlining administrative procedures has been adopted in its first reading by the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.

The proposed amendments to the Tax Code and the Economic Procedural Code introduce a simplified mechanism for cases in which a taxpayer acknowledges a violation and does not contest it.

In such situations, the decision to temporarily freeze bank accounts will be made directly by tax authorities without court involvement.

A similar expedited procedure is also proposed for lifting restrictions. Once violations are rectified, account unfreezing will be carried out by the tax service in a faster administrative process.

The initiative is intended to reduce bureaucratic procedures and eliminate the need for judicial proceedings in cases where there is no dispute between businesses and regulatory authorities. It is expected to allow entrepreneurs to resume operations more quickly and reduce financial losses.

At the same time, existing legal safeguards will remain in place.

If a taxpayer disagrees with the decision of tax authorities, disputes over account suspension will be considered exclusively by economic courts, ensuring judicial oversight and protection of business rights.
