Uzbekistan introduces "Physical Culture and Sports Day" and Reforms Sports Schools

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) —  The President of Uzbekistan signed decree No. 443 on 18 December 2024, aimed at developing children's and youth sports.
Starting from the 2025/2026 academic year, every Thursday will be declared "Physical Culture and Sports Day."
The decree also includes the following provisions: specialization of sports schools, the introduction of the position of mass sports talent scout coach (responsible for organizing sports events in 5 neighborhoods), and the reorganization of state specialized boarding schools into schools of sports excellence (with a cap on the number of students in grades 7-11 at 150 and the issuance of a state certificate of general secondary education upon completion).
Education at the schools of excellence will be free of charge.
