Uzbekistan hosts Global HackAtom national stage

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The national stage of the international student engineering championship Global HackAtom was held in Tashkent on 20–21 April with support from Rosatom. More than 100 students from seven leading universities across Uzbekistan took part in the event.

Participants included representatives of the Tashkent branch of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, Samarkand State University, Tashkent State Technical University, and other higher education institutions.

Over the course of two days, 20 student teams worked on solving an engineering challenge related to the development of an “atomic cluster” project in Uzbekistan.

The program featured educational lectures delivered by experts from the MEPhI Institute of Nuclear Energy and Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University named after R.E. Alekseev, as well as project presentations before a professional jury.

The expert panel included specialists from MEPhI, the Directorate for the Construction of a Nuclear Power Plant, and the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan.

The winning team of the national stage was “Synthesis” from the Tashkent branch of MEPhI. The team will represent Uzbekistan at the international final of the championship, scheduled for September 2026 as part of the World Youth Festival in Yekaterinburg.

Rosatom Deputy Director General for Human Resources Tatyana Terentyeva praised the quality of the projects, noting that participants are already shaping the future engineering and technological elite of the country.

Global HackAtom is an international engineering competition where students propose solutions to real nuclear industry challenges within 24 hours. In 2026, national stages are being held in 15 countries, including Brazil, Hungary, Vietnam, and Egypt. The winning teams will meet in the grand final in Russia to compete for the title of best team.

The educational component of the project is organized by the Association “Consortium of Flagship Universities of Rosatom,” which brings together 22 specialized higher education institutions and coordinates workforce training for the nuclear industry.
