Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Hong Kong discussed expanding bilateral trade, economic, and investment cooperation alongside collaboration in legal services and international arbitration during a meeting in Tashkent on 27 August 2026, according to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan.

The talks took place at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan with a visiting delegation from Hong Kong led by Secretary for Justice Paul Lam.

The meeting gathered representatives from Uzbekistan's Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Justice, the Tashkent International Arbitration Centre (TIAC), and domestic law firms, together with delegates from the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, the World Federation of Hong Kong Business Associations, and international legal and financial firms.

A primary topic was establishing direct business contacts between the two regions, expanding investment interaction, and exploring practical collaboration in commercial legal support.

Special focus was given to international arbitration and dispute resolution mechanisms. Diana Bayzakova, Director of the Tashkent International Arbitration Centre, highlighted that TIAC has been developing cooperation with the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) since 2023.

As part of that ongoing partnership, the two arbitration centers developed cross-institutional arbitration rules. Meeting participants noted that the rules have received international recognition and that their practical application demonstrates demand for such mechanisms in resolving commercial disputes.

Delegates also discussed strengthening professional ties between Hong Kong law firms and Uzbek legal practices, focusing on legal support for investment projects, joint venture creation, and corporate services for entrepreneurs.

Additional areas on the agenda included potential collaboration across financial and banking services, investment management, financial technology, the digital economy, legal consulting, and international arbitration.

Following the meeting, representatives from Uzbekistan and Hong Kong reaffirmed their commitment to expanding practical engagement, developing new joint initiatives, and strengthening economic ties.
