Uzbekistan expands tourism cooperation with Hong Kong — Now.com reports

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A leading Hong Kong media outlet, Now.com, has published a report on the development of tourism cooperation between Uzbekistan and Hong Kong, featuring an exclusive interview with the Chairman of the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan, Abdulaziz Akkulov.

The publication notes that Hong Kong authorities have recently placed increased emphasis on strengthening ties with emerging markets in Central Asia and the Middle East.

In the interview, Akkulov said that negotiations are ongoing regarding the launch of direct air connections between Hong Kong and Uzbekistan, adding that positive outcomes are expected in the coming months.

According to him, Uzbekistan welcomed 11.7 million foreign tourists in 2025, and the country aims to increase this figure to 20 million by 2030.

“We are working on opening a new air route between Hong Kong and Tashkent. Together with partners, we are also considering a route via Bangkok, which would strengthen connectivity between our countries. Uzbekistan has a rich cultural and historical heritage, including numerous world-class architectural monuments and attractions. We intend to actively promote the country’s tourism potential in the Hong Kong market,” he said.

The report also highlights that Uzbekistan, the most populous country in Central Asia, is demonstrating steady economic growth of around 6 percent annually. Alongside tourism development, the country is seeking to attract foreign investment, including from Hong Kong business circles.

Particular attention is given to government incentives for investors in the tourism and hospitality sectors. According to Akkulov, investors constructing four-star hotels receive a subsidy of US$5,000 per room, while three-star hotel projects are eligible for US$3,500 per room. Additional tax benefits are provided for up to seven years after commissioning.

The measures apply to all investors, including those from Hong Kong.

The report also notes existing visa facilitation measures for Hong Kong residents, who can currently stay in Uzbekistan visa-free for up to 10 days or obtain a 30-day e-visa, with the option of extension if needed.

Experts cited in the publication say that expanding cooperation with Hong Kong could significantly boost tourist flows, improve air connectivity, and attract investment into Uzbekistan’s tourism infrastructure.
