Uzbekistan Moves to Tighten Control Over Foreign Labor

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan considered in its second reading a draft law introducing amendments and additions to the Code of Administrative Responsibility. The document establishes administrative liability for foreign citizens and stateless persons who engage in employment without a work permit granting the right to work in the country.

The bill also allocates jurisdiction over such administrative cases. Under the proposal, authority to review these offenses will be assigned to the State Labor Inspection, internal affairs bodies, and criminal courts.

Additionally, the draft law establishes liability for foreign nationals and stateless persons performing work that is not specified in their issued work permits.

During parliamentary discussions, lawmakers noted that the bill aims to prevent violations in labor relations and strengthen the protection of citizens' labor rights. Furthermore, its provisions are intended to bolster Uzbekistan's positive image in the international arena.

Following the review, deputies passed the draft law and forwarded it to the Senate for consideration.
