Uzbekistan cuts gas supplies to Tajikistan by almost four times
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) --
Uzbekistan has reduced gas supplies to Tajikistan to up to 400,000 cubic meters a day, which is 3.75 times less than usual daily supplies, the deputy head of the Tojiktransgaz [Tajik gas transportation] open joint-stock company, Shavkat Shoimov, said.
The reason behind this was Dushanbe’s US$14 million debt to Uztransgaz [the Uzbek gas transportation company]. Uzbekistan is the only gas exporter to Tajikistan.
"As of today, the debt is US$14 million and the Uztransgaz has once again reduced gas supplies to up to 400,000 cubic meters a day," Shavkat Shoimov said.
Tajikistan cannot settle its gas debt as its domestic consumers do not pay in time.
