Uzbekistan citizen sentenced to 12 years in Russia over recruitment case
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Southern District Military Court in Russia has sentenced a citizen of Uzbekistan to 12 years in prison in a case involving recruitment and assistance to an organization recognized as terrorist and banned in Russia, according to a court representative.
According to the court, the convicted individual, acting with the intention of assisting members of the banned organization Katiba Tawhid wal-Jihad, provided one of its representatives with bank card details and a phone number for fundraising purposes. The funds were allegedly intended for the purchase of weapons, ammunition, and equipment.
The court representative also stated that at the end of March 2024, the defendant attempted to persuade another person to join the activities of the organization.
Investigators found that the accused, following a proposal from an organization member, contacted a person acting under operational investigative measures and requested a transfer of 10,000 rubles to his bank card for further transfer of funds.
The court found him guilty and sentenced him to 12 years of imprisonment.
