Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan has approved its first regulatory framework allowing local businesses to participate in futures contract trading on international commodity derivatives exchanges.

The regulations, adopted by the Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection Committee, establish procedures for supervising Uzbek companies' participation in international futures markets and protecting their interests.

The document was developed in accordance with Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 82 of 27 February 2026 and registered by the Ministry of Justice on 23 October 2026 under No. 3961.

The new framework provides a legal basis for Uzbek entrepreneurs to access international derivatives markets and use exchange-traded instruments to manage financial risks associated with fluctuations in commodity prices.

Access to Major International Commodity Exchanges

Under the regulations, Uzbek businesses will be able to trade futures contracts covering copper, wheat, cotton, oil, gold and other commodities.

Trading will be available through major international exchanges, including the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the London Metal Exchange (LME) and other global trading platforms.

Transactions will be conducted through UZEX Global LLC, an international exchange intermediary affiliated with the Uzbekistan Republican Commodity Exchange.

The regulations define the conditions for market participation, the responsibilities of the intermediary and mechanisms for government oversight.

Specific provisions require client funds to be maintained in separate accounts and information about the services provided to be disclosed.

Participation Will Be Voluntary

Participation in international futures trading will be voluntary for Uzbek entrepreneurs.

Businesses will conduct transactions in their own names and at their own expense.

The deposit and withdrawal of funds for futures trading in the national currency, as well as foreign exchange transactions, will be carried out in accordance with established procedures.

The framework is intended to provide businesses with regulated access to international commodity derivatives while establishing safeguards for participants and their funds.

New Opportunities for Commodity Price Risk Management

The introduction of international futures trading is expected to expand the range of financial instruments available to Uzbek enterprises.

Futures contracts can be used to manage exposure to changes in commodity prices, including fluctuations affecting raw materials and other internationally traded products.

The new mechanism is also expected to support the development of Uzbekistan's domestic exchange infrastructure and strengthen the country's integration into the global economy.

By establishing formal procedures for international commodity derivatives trading, the regulations create a framework for Uzbek businesses seeking to manage commodity price risks through recognised international exchanges.
