Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An Uzbek-Chinese business forum and thematic sessions involving Shanghai Cooperation Organisation member states were held during the fifth Tashkent International Investment Forum, focusing on investment attraction, regional integration, and the financing of major joint projects.

During the discussions, Uzbek government representatives noted that the country's gross domestic product reached US$147 billion in 2025. It was also highlighted that more than 5,600 joint ventures involving Chinese capital are operating in Uzbekistan, and that bilateral trade last year totalled approximately US$18 billion.

Both sides assessed that this figure could rise to US$21 billion in the current year.

Particular attention was given to financial cooperation. Representatives of the National Bank of Uzbekistan reported that funds attracted from Chinese financial institutions have exceeded US$4.5 billion, including the placement of 1 billion yuan in Chinese national currency. Mechanisms for accessing international capital markets and the use of national currencies in settlements were also discussed.

In the energy segment of the forum, Chinese company Energy China presented data on projects in Uzbekistan worth US$2.5 billion. These include the construction of a 1 GW photovoltaic power plant and a large energy storage complex aimed at developing the green energy sector.

In the industrial sector, a representative of JAC Motors announced plans to invest US$100 million in establishing an automotive production facility in Tashkent with capacity of up to 30,000 vehicles per year and a partial focus on exports.

At the conclusion of the forum, participants noted that Uzbek-Chinese cooperation has entered a new phase, moving from trade interaction to deeper financial and technological cooperation, including the development of digital and green sectors of the economy.
