Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Egypt Mansurbek Kilichev, appointed as the country’s first ambassador to Algeria with residence in Cairo, has presented copies of his credentials to Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs Ahmed Attaf, according to the Dunyo news agency.

Following the ceremony, the two sides held talks focusing on prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation. Particular attention was given to cooperation in education, healthcare, and inter-parliamentary relations.

The Algerian foreign minister noted that he is well informed about reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan under President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and positively assessed the country’s transformation dynamics. He also expressed interest in further strengthening political dialogue.

During discussions on economic cooperation, Ahmed Attaf stressed that the current level of mutual trade does not reflect the real potential of both sides.

According to him, significant opportunities exist in mining, geology, pharmaceuticals, and the textile industry.

The Algerian side proposed considering the placement of Uzbek textile production facilities in Algeria, with subsequent duty-free export of products to African markets.

In addition, initiatives were discussed to establish trading houses, warehouse complexes, and showrooms in special economic zones, as well as to create a business council and launch an intergovernmental commission.

At the end of the meeting, the minister expressed interest in a visit by Uzbekistan’s foreign minister to Algeria, conveyed his greetings, and confirmed readiness to support the work of the Uzbek ambassador.

Mansurbek Kilichev was born in 1979 and graduated from the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies. Since 2002, he has worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, holding various positions, including in diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Since October 2021, he has served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Egypt.
