Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Uzbekistan, preventive visits to correctional institutions and pre-trial detention centers have been organized for government officials. The measure aims to familiarize public servants with the consequences of corruption-related offenses.

The initiative is being implemented by the Anti-Corruption Agency in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs under an action plan for 2026 approved by the National Anti-Corruption Council.

The first participants in the programme included senior officials and employees of the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services, the Ministry of Poverty Reduction and Employment, and the Cadastre Agency. During the visits, they were introduced to conditions in pre-trial detention centers and the work of correctional institutions.

In addition, representatives of government bodies met with individuals convicted of corruption offenses. During the meetings, examples were presented showing how illegal decisions affected the lives of the convicted individuals, their families, professional activity, and social status.

The Anti-Corruption Agency said the main purpose of such activities is to strengthen public officials’ understanding of the inevitability of legal consequences of corruption, as well as to reinforce principles of integrity and the rule of law.

It is planned that similar preventive visits will be expanded to cover senior officials of other ministries and agencies, as well as employees in sectors with higher corruption risks.

To ensure transparency, representatives of the media and civil society are expected to be involved in these activities.
