Uzbek Lawmakers Pass Bill to Strengthen Business Rights

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Lawmakers in Uzbekistan’s Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis have approved, in the second reading, a draft law aimed at safeguarding the rights and legitimate interests of business entities.

The document предусматривает amendments and additions to the Economic Procedural Code and the Tax Code. In particular, it establishes that if a taxpayer acknowledges a committed violation and raises no objections, the suspension of transactions on their bank accounts will be carried out by tax authorities.

At the same time, once the violation is remedied, the lifting of restrictions on the account will also be handled by the tax authorities. This provision is expected to eliminate the need for court proceedings and ensure a faster restoration of business operations.

However, if the taxpayer disagrees with the decision of the tax authority, the suspension of bank account transactions will be imposed by an economic court upon a corresponding application.

According to Zukhriddin Mavlonov, a member of the Committee on Anti-Corruption and Judicial-Legal Issues, the draft law was refined ahead of the second reading, taking into account proposals from lawmakers and experts.

He noted that the bill is designed to remove excessive procedures that hinder the prompt resumption of business activities and to support the stability of the entrepreneurial environment.

Following the discussion, the draft law was adopted by lawmakers and submitted to the Senate for consideration.
