Uzbek Industrial Output Rises 8% in First Half of 2026

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Enterprises in Uzbekistan produced industrial output worth 637.2 trillion soums in January–June 2026, up 8 percent compared with the same period last year, according to a press release published by the National Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Statistics on 28 July.

As of 1 July 2026, there were 63,300 industrial enterprises operating in the country. The largest number were engaged in food production (12,700, or 20.1 percent), other non-metallic mineral products (8,900, or 14 percent), and clothing (6,400, or 10.1 percent).

Navoi and Tashkent Account for Over One-Third of Production

Nearly 42 percent of the country's total industrial output is concentrated in just two regions: Navoi Region (155 trillion soums) and the city of Tashkent (109.6 trillion soums), followed by Tashkent Region (100 trillion soums). These three regions also recorded the highest per capita output—139 million soums in Navoi Region, 34.3 million soums in Tashkent, and 31.5 million soums in Tashkent Region, compared with the national average of 16.6 million soums.

However, per capita production growth rates above the national average of 106.1 percent were recorded in Jizzakh (110.3 percent), Samarkand (107.8 percent), and Andijan (107.4 percent) regions, indicating that areas with smaller industrial bases are outstripping the market leaders.

Manufacturing Sector Accounts for 86 Percent of Output

Manufacturing dominated the industrial structure, accounting for 549.7 trillion soums, or 86.3 percent of total output. Mining and quarrying accounted for 42.4 trillion soums (6.7 percent); electricity and gas supply reached 41.7 trillion soums (6.5 percent); and water supply and waste management totaled 3.3 trillion soums (0.5 percent).

Within manufacturing, the largest share was held by the production of food, beverages, and tobacco products (16.8 percent), followed by metal products, machinery, equipment, and motor vehicles (16.3 percent), textiles, clothing, and leather goods (13.9 percent), and chemical products, rubber, and plastic goods (6.6 percent).

Automotive Sector Up Nearly 13 Percent

Automobile production grew significantly, with passenger car output rising to 235,800 units from 209,000 a year earlier, and truck production increasing to 2,750 from 2,300. The sharpest growth was recorded by BYD models, which nearly doubled to 13,400 units, and Cobalt models, which rose to 83,000 units. Output of car engines increased to 126,700 units.

Among other major commodities produced in the six-month period were 18.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas, 313,800 tonnes of crude oil, 2.5 million tonnes of coal, 614,200 tonnes of motor gasoline, 568,000 tonnes of diesel fuel, 10.1 million tonnes of Portland cement, 433,600 tonnes of yarn, and 724,100 tonnes of flour made from soft wheat and spelt. However, natural gas production declined from 21.9 billion to 18.3 billion cubic meters, as did the extraction of crude oil and gas condensate.

Electricity Generation Rises, Thermal Power Output Drops

Electricity generation reached 44.1 billion kWh in January–June 2026, up 5.7 percent from a year earlier. Output by large enterprises fell to 29.8 billion kWh, while generation by small business entities grew by nearly 37 percent to 14.3 billion kWh, reflecting an expansion in distributed generation.

In contrast, thermal energy production by large enterprises declined by 18.1 percent to 9.3 million Gcal. Gas obtained from underground coal gasification was not produced in January–June 2026.

In the water supply and waste disposal sector, the volume of textile waste increased by 12.7 percent to 13,400 tonnes, while wastewater treatment services rose 12.3 percent to 371.7 billion soums.
