Uzbek Competition Committee Warns Against Price Hikes
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s Competition Committee has urged enterprises with dominant market positions not to implement economically unjustified price increases for goods and services following a rise in fuel and energy tariffs.
The agency said it continuously monitors the activities of dominant market participants, including an analysis of their pricing policies.
According to the committee, a 10 percent increase in fuel and energy tariffs from 1 June 2026 may affect the cost structure of certain goods and services. However, it should not be used as a basis for unjustified price increases for products and services provided by natural monopolies and monopolistic producers.
As part of preparations for the tariff adjustment, the committee analyzed the share of fuel and energy costs in the cost structure of monopolistic goods and services, and assessed the potential impact of higher expenses on final prices.
The authority noted that it has previously taken measures against companies setting prices above actual costs.
The committee called on enterprises operating as natural or other monopolies to strictly comply with legal requirements when forming prices, and warned that any cases of unjustified price increases would be reviewed under established procedures.
It also reminded that financial penalties and other enforcement measures are provided under the law for economically unjustified price increases in monopolistic goods and services.
The committee said it would continue efforts to ensure a healthy competitive environment and protect consumer interests.
