Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Main Department of Internal Affairs (MDIA) of Tashkent has commented on reports of a large-scale police chase in the city center involving the use of firearms.
Footage of the incident had previously circulated on social media, showing a driver attempting to flee law enforcement and colliding with several vehicles.
According to the MDIA, the incident took place on the evening of 11 June 2026 in the Yakkasaray district.
A 44-year-old man, identified as R. Yu., was driving a Chevrolet Cobalt along Shota Rustaveli Street while repeatedly violating traffic rules and posing a serious threat to pedestrians and other road users.
The agency stated that the individual is officially registered with a psychoneurological clinic.
Despite repeated lawful orders from traffic police to stop, the driver continued at high speed and struck several vehicles along the way.
